Ministry of Education Announces Teacher Training Opportunities in Tanzania
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has officially announced applications for Diploma Teacher Training Programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year. The programmes are designed to strengthen the teaching workforce in Tanzania by preparing qualified teachers for Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Special Needs Education.
Training will be offered in both government and private teachers’ colleges across the country. Eligible applicants are invited to apply for admission based on the qualifications outlined by the ministry.
Available Teacher Training Programmes
The Ministry is offering the following diploma programmes:
1. Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education (2 Years)
This programme is intended for:
- Form Six graduates with Division I–III and at least two Principal Passes.
- Teachers who have completed a Certificate in Early Childhood or Primary Teacher Education.
Successful applicants with teaching certificates will be assigned to appropriate study streams based on their performance in the National Teacher Education Examination.
2. Special Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (3 Years)
Applicants must be Form Four graduates with Division I–III and have obtained grade C or above in at least three subjects. Two of the subjects must be among the following:
- Basic Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Information and Computer Studies
- Computer Science
The programme aims to increase the number of qualified primary school teachers specializing in science and mathematics subjects.
3. Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education through Distance Learning (3–4 Years)
This programme is specifically designed for teachers who have already completed a Certificate in Early Childhood or Primary Teacher Education and wish to upgrade their qualifications while continuing to work.
Distance Learning Requirements
Teacher training colleges interested in offering distance learning programmes must comply with the Guidelines for the Provision of Diploma Teacher Education in Early Childhood and Primary Education through Distance Learning (February 2026), issued by the Commissioner for Education.
