Service Man – Dewatering (Open Pit Mining)

Position overview
The Service Man – Dewatering will be responsible for supporting dewatering activities within the open pit mining operations by assisting in installation, maintenance, inspection, servicing, and operation of pumps, pipelines, hoses, generators, and other dewatering equipment to ensure effective water management and continuous mining production.
Key duties and responsibilities
Dewatering operations
- Assist in installation, relocation, and maintenance of dewatering pumps and pipelines.
- Monitor pit water levels and ensure pumps are operating effectively.
- Conduct routine inspection of hoses, valves, pipelines, generators, and pump systems.
- Report mechanical faults, leakages, or operational problems to supervisors immediately.
- Assist in fueling, lubrication, and servicing of dewatering equipment.
- Ensure proper drainage systems are maintained within the pit area.
- Support continuous water pumping activities during rainy and production periods.
Safety and compliance
- Follow company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures at all times.
- Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
- Maintain cleanliness and safe working conditions around dewatering stations and equipment.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
Record keeping and teamwork
- Maintain daily operational records and report activities to supervisors.
- Work closely with operators, mechanics, and mining teams to support production targets.
- Assist in any other mining operational duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and requirements
Education
Minimum qualification: Form Four Certificate (O-Level Education).
- Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Pump Operations, Mining Operations, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or any related technical field will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) year experience in mining, dewatering operations, pump servicing, or related field is preferred.
- Experience working in open pit mining environment will be an added advantage.
Skills and competencies
- Basic knowledge of pumps, generators, pipelines, and water management systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and in remote mining environments.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual duties.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Fluency in Kiswahili; basic English knowledge is an added advantage.
Working conditions
- Field-based work within open pit mining operations.
- Required to work in shifts, including night shifts and extended hours when necessary.
- Exposure to mining operational environments, dust, mud, and changing weather conditions.
- Performance expectations

Position overview
The Dewatering Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all dewatering activities within the open pit mining operations. The role involves overseeing dewatering personnel, ensuring effective operation and maintenance of pumps and related equipment, managing pit water levels, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards to support uninterrupted mining production.
Key duties and responsibilities
Dewatering operations management
Supervise daily dewatering activities within the open pit mining area.
Coordinate installation, relocation, operation, and maintenance of dewatering pumps, pipelines, hoses, generators, and related systems.
Monitor pit water levels and ensure continuous and effective drainage operations.
Ensure all dewatering equipment is functioning efficiently and downtime is minimized.
Plan and allocate manpower and equipment according to operational requirements.
Conduct regular inspection of pumps, valves, pipelines, electrical connections, and generators.
Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for dewatering equipment.
Ensure proper fuel usage, lubrication, and servicing of dewatering systems.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency flooding situations.
Supervision and team leadership
Supervise Dewatering Service Men and operators during shift operations.
Provide guidance, training, and technical support to dewatering personnel.
Conduct daily toolbox meetings and safety briefings.
Ensure discipline, productivity, and teamwork among employees.
Prepare shift schedules and monitor attendance of workers.
Safety and environmental compliance
Enforce company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
Ensure all personnel use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain safe working conditions around pumping stations and pit areas.
Ensure environmental compliance related to water discharge and drainage systems.
Report accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Reporting and administration
Maintain daily operational and maintenance reports.
Prepare dewatering performance reports and submit them to management.
Monitor equipment utilization and operational efficiency.
Coordinate with mining, maintenance, and production departments to achieve operational targets.
Assist management in achieving production and water control objectives.
Qualifications and requirements
Education
- Minimum qualification: Form Four Certificate (O-Level Education).
- Certificate, Diploma, or Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Pump
- Operations, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or related technical field will be highly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years working experience in dewatering operations, mining operations, or pump management.
- At least one (1) year in a supervisory role within mining or related industries will be an added advantage.
- Experience in open pit mining operations is highly preferred.
Skills and competencies
