Communication Coordinator Job Opportunity at TREES Tanzania

TREES Tanzania is seeking a highly skilled Communication Coordinator to lead the implementation of the Tanzania Program Communications Strategy while strengthening both internal and external communications across the organization.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to contribute to environmental restoration, sustainable livelihoods, and agroforestry initiatives by creating compelling content, managing public engagement activities, and ensuring consistent brand visibility.

About the Role

The Communication Coordinator will work closely with program teams, the Regional Marketing and Communications Team, and the Central Office to support communication, branding, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement activities. The role is responsible for producing high-quality communication materials, documenting project impact, coordinating media relations, and promoting TREES Tanzania’s mission to local and international audiences.

The position reports directly to the Country Director, with matrix reporting to the Regional Marketing and Communications Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communication Planning and Monitoring

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of communication plans aligned with organizational goals and donor requirements.
  • Support dissemination of IEC materials, success stories, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Monitor communication outputs and analyze performance indicators.
  • Support evidence-based communication and adaptive programming approaches.

Branding and Visibility

  • Ensure all communication materials comply with organizational branding guidelines and donor visibility requirements.
  • Support communication planning, organizational messaging, and visibility activities.
  • Coordinate production and dissemination of branded communication materials.

Media Relations and Public Engagement

  • Prepare media kits, press releases, and advocacy communication materials.
  • Build strong relationships with journalists, media houses, influencers, and communication networks.
  • Coordinate media interviews, press events, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Maintain an updated media engagement database.

Content Development and Documentation

  • Develop newsletters, success stories, case studies, social media content, speeches, reports, photography, and videos.
  • Conduct regular field visits to collect stories, photographs, interviews, and impact evidence.
  • Manage communication assets, photo banks, and content archives.
  • Support donor visits and stakeholder engagement events through compelling storytelling and visual documentation.

Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning

  • Transform project results and evidence into knowledge products such as learning briefs and case studies.
  • Promote collaboration, learning, and information sharing across departments.
  • Ensure proper archiving and management of communication materials.
  • Document innovations, best practices, and lessons learned to strengthen organizational knowledge.

Safeguarding and Ethical Communication

  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and ethical communication standards.
  • Verify informed consent for all stories, photographs, and audiovisual materials.
  • Promote respectful, inclusive, and culturally sensitive communication.
  • Uphold TREES values and organizational integrity in all communication activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Development Communication, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, media engagement, knowledge management, or related areas.
  • Experience in NGOs, development programs, or international organizations is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in storytelling, content creation, photography, videography, and digital communications.
  • Strong understanding of branding, visibility requirements, donor compliance, and communication strategies.
  • Experience managing digital communication platforms and tools.
  • Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Excellent English writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to travel frequently and work effectively with rural communities and smallholder farmers.
