St. Constantine’s International School (SCIS) was founded in 1951 and is the oldest international school  in Tanzania, as well as the largest international school in northern Tanzania. We are a not-for-profit,  non-denominational, co-educational, day and boarding, international school. We are predominantly a  Cambridge International School, following the EYFS programme in Early Years and then the Cambridge  International Programme from Years 1 to 9. In Years 10 and 11, students study the Cambridge IGCSEs  and, in Years 12 and 13, they mainly study the Cambridge A-level programme. We are also proud  members of Round Square.

Responsibilities:  

The teacher will: 

  • Teach all areas of the secondary A-level mathematics curriculum.
  • Take responsibility for the progress of a class of all pupils.
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources and create displays to encourage a  positive learning environment.
  • Plan, prepare and present lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within  their class.
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations.
  • Maintain discipline.
  • Prepare and mark work to facilitate positive pupil development.
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development.
  • Provide feedback to parents and carers on a pupil’s progress at parents’ evenings and  other meetings.
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and support colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
  • Work with others to plan and coordinate work.
  • Keep up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum.
  • Organise and take part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at  weekends or in the evening.
  • Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly.
  • Work with parents to maximise their involvement in the school and the development of  resources for the school.
  • Meet with other professionals such as education welfare officers and educational  psychologists, if required.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons to a range of classes of different ages and abilities.
  • Mark work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress and  development.
  • Research new topic areas, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, and devise and write  new curriculum materials.
  • Select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment, including podcasts  and interactive whiteboards.
  • Undertake pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and support pupils on  an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties.
  • Prepare pupils for qualifications and external examinations.
  • Manage pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and apply appropriate  and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour.
  • Supervise and support the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified  teachers (NQTs).
  • Participate in departmental meetings, parents’ evenings and whole school training events.
  • Undergo regular observations and participate in regular in-service training (INSET) as part  of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Requirements; 

  • A diploma or degree in a relevant subject area is preferred 
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching essential. 
  • Experience of the English or Cambridge curriculum desirable.

We currently serve 635 students (including over 90 boarders aged 9 – 18 in three boarding houses)  from over 30 different countries. Our Main (Burka) Campus (where our boarding house is located) has  gorgeous gardens and playing fields, sitting in beautiful tree-lined surroundings under Africa’s 5th  highest mountain, Mount Meru, on the world-class northern game park circuit. Our smaller Town  Campus, which runs parallel classes to our Main Campus from Nursery to Year 2, is in a delightful  setting just outside the CBD, with spacious classrooms, wonderful mountain views and a lovely family  feel. 

We are seeking a dynamic colleague who is committed to the busy life of a boarding school. The successful candidate must have experience working with young people, ideally across the Primary Secondary age ranges, and must possess excellent pastoral instincts and significant experience of pastoral care, preferably in a boarding environment. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of what makes a successful boarding school and must be willing to contribute to the team which leads the boarding house at SCIS under the leadership of the Head of Boarding. The successful candidate will also possess the energy and enthusiasm to contribute to our wide range of extra-curricular programmes.

Requirements: 

  • A diploma or degree in a relevant subject area is preferred, though not essential 
  • A minimum of 3 years’ working in a school or social-work environment is very much preferred.
  •  Evidence of significant experience working successfully with young people is an absolute  minimum. 
  • Passion for working with children and a commitment to educating and developing the whole  child. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team. 
  • Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities. 
  • Evidence of recent, relevant professional development in a related area…
