
Position: Participatory Enterprise Curriculum Developer (Swahili/Maa)
Location: Tanzania (Remote, with limited field engagement in Northern Tanzania)
Duration: 3–6 weeks (Short-term consultancy)

Role Overview
SFTZ is seeking a qualified consultant to design a participatory enterprise and microfinance curriculum tailored to Maasai youth and women involved in restoration-linked seed and forage enterprises. The curriculum will help participants build practical business skills, strengthen their financial literacy, and reinforce sustainable rangeland management practices.
Scope of Work
The consultant will develop a practical, field-ready curriculum that enables participants to:
- Understand the value chain from native seed production → forage → livestock productivity → market linkages
- Develop basic business plans and financial management skills
- Participate in savings groups and internal lending models, including VSLA-style approaches
- Conduct pricing, profit calculation, and simple financial record-keeping
- Plan for risks and enterprise diversification
- Enhance youth leadership, accountability, and group governance
The curriculum should be highly participatory and visual, suitable for rural, low-literacy contexts. Materials will be developed primarily in Swahili, with integration of Maa terminology and cultural context where appropriate. Training will be delivered in person in Northern Tanzania as needed.

- Structured training curriculum with detailed session plans and facilitator guide
- Participant-friendly training materials adapted for low-literacy audiences
- Practical exercises, case studies, and group activities
- Simple templates for budgeting, savings tracking, and profit calculation
- Suggested monitoring indicators for enterprise growth
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in enterprise development, microfinance, or VSLA programming
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (Master’s preferred)
- Experience working with rural and/or pastoralist communities
- Strong skills in participatory curriculum design
- Fluency in Swahili (required)
- Proficiency in Maa language (strongly preferred)
