Senior Mine Geologist – Sotta Mining Corporation Limited Jobs (Perseus Mining) – Mwanza, Tanzania 2026
Sotta Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL), a subsidiary of Perseus Mining, is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Senior Mine Geologist based at the Nyanzaga Gold Project in Sengerema District, Mwanza Region. The company is seeking two highly motivated candidates to support grade control operations, geological modelling, drilling supervision, and mine-to-mill reconciliation activities.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Mine Geology Superintendent, the Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for leading daily grade control activities within the open pit operation. The role focuses on delivering accurate geological data, supervising RC grade control drilling programs, managing geological sampling and logging, and ensuring effective ore and waste delineation in line with the Mine Management Plan (MMP).
The successful candidate will also play a critical role in geological database management, grade control block modelling, wireframing, reconciliation reporting, and environmental material classification through NAF/PAF management.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Environment and Community Relations
- Promote a strong safety culture across mine geology operations.
- Support the implementation of safety procedures, JHAs, JSAs, and SOPs.
- Identify and manage geology-related operational hazards.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and community engagement requirements.
Grade Control Drilling and Sampling
- Plan and supervise RC grade control drilling programs.
- Manage drilling data collection, logging, sampling, and QA/QC procedures.
- Ensure accurate ore and waste classification to minimize dilution and ore loss.
- Coordinate drilling activities with survey teams and contractors.
Geological Modelling and Wireframing
- Develop and maintain geological wireframes using current drilling and mapping data.
- Update short-range grade control block models.
- Generate geological plans, sections, and technical reports for operational teams.
Data Management and Reporting
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of geological databases.
- Validate drilling, sampling, assay, and logging information.
- Lead operational reconciliation activities and monthly reporting.
- Support mine planning and metallurgy teams through accurate geological reporting.
Team Leadership
- Supervise Mine Geologists, Junior Geologists, and Grade Control Technicians.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training.
- Support competency development and succession planning initiatives.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Strong proficiency in Micromine for geological modelling and grade control.
- Experience using Acquire database management systems.
- Knowledge of mine reconciliation processes and geological data validation.
- Experience in greenfield mining projects and operational ramp-up environments.
- Ability to work effectively in remote and multicultural mining environments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional membership will be an added advantage.
- Valid driver’s licence suitable for mining operations.
